Como parte de la Unidad de Indagación “Where We Are in Place and Time”, los estudiantes de grado segundo llevaron a cabo una evaluación formativa en la que seleccionaron eventos históricos significativos en la historia de la humanidad, acontecimientos que han dejado una huella duradera en la sociedad y han influido en el desarrollo de las nuevas generaciones.
A través de esta experiencia de aprendizaje, los estudiantes demostraron su mentalidad indagadora, al tiempo que fortalecieron importantes atributos del perfil de la comunidad de aprendizaje, como ser buenos comunicadores, de mentalidad abierta y reflexivos, al analizar las transformaciones que han dado forma al mundo a lo largo del tiempo.
Cada estudiante eligió un acontecimiento que captó especialmente su interés entre los diferentes momentos históricos explorados en los distintos espacios académicos. Posteriormente, organizaron su investigación en un tríptico, en el que presentaron información sobre el antes (qué sucedía antes del evento), el durante (qué ocurrió en el momento del evento) y el después (qué cambios y transformaciones se produjeron a partir de ese acontecimiento).
A lo largo de este proceso, los estudiantes explicaron cómo los eventos seleccionados generaron cambios y transformaciones en la vida del ser humano y en la sociedad, reflexionando sobre su importancia histórica y su impacto a largo plazo.
Esta actividad resalta el enfoque transdisciplinario del PEP, evidenciando cómo las diferentes áreas del conocimiento contribuyen a la formación integral de los estudiantes dentro de la comunidad IB, fomentando la curiosidad, las habilidades de investigación y la construcción de conexiones significativas con el pasado.

Discovering the Past: Second Graders Investigate Events That Shaped the World
As part of the Unit of Inquiry “Where We Are in Place and Time,” second-grade students carried out a formative assessment in which they selected historical events that have been significant in human history—events that have left a lasting mark on society and influenced the development of new generations.
Through this learning experience, students demonstrated their inquiry mindset while strengthening important IB Learner Profile attributes, such as being communicators, open-minded, and reflective, as they analyzed the transformations that have shaped the world over time.
Each student chose an event that particularly captured their interest from among the various historical moments explored across different academic areas. They then organized their research in a tri-fold brochure, presenting information about before (what was happening prior to the event), during (what occurred at the time of the event), and after (the changes and developments that followed).
Throughout this process, students explained how the selected events generated changes and transformations in human life and society, reflecting on their historical significance and long-term impact.
This activity highlights the transdisciplinary approach of the PYP, demonstrating how different subject areas contribute to the holistic development of students within the IB community, fostering curiosity, research skills, and meaningful connections with the past.
