For a more sustainable world!

During unit 4, «Sharing the Planet,» first-grade students could inquire about natural resources and their preservation. Because of this, they discovered the importance of working for a much more sustainable world by changing their choices and lifestyles with their families. These changes aimed to use more environmentally friendly toiletries, cleaning, and makeup products.

For this reason, during the summative assessment, the students worked collaboratively to propose, create and design an ecological product that could be sold to others. Each group of students was supported by their parents, who collected all the materials and ingredients (reusable and friendly to the planet). Once the first graders had their materials complete, they set about creating their product and designing the sale. They chose the fragrances and textures for their production. In addition, with the help of the course directors and Spanish teachers, they created the labels, the barcodes, and the promotion strategy. Finally, they presented and convinced the public about the importance of using organic products. They also agreed to use their products for cleaning and organizing the classroom and thus reduce the consumption of elements that harm the environment.

In conclusion, it was observed that the students worked on developing their communication and thinking skills during this learning experience. The collaborative work between parents, teachers, and students allowed the objectives to be achieved. Likewise, we all reflect on our decisions’ impact on natural resources and the importance of maintaining a balance between human needs and using finite resources.
